AINTREE

The track has great run-off areas so you can push very hard very quickly. It's also a very wide track with plenty of grip even in the wet - most modified cars were still going out on slicks in the pouring rain. This guide was written with reference to a 2.0 190bhp Westfield SEi with a Tran-X box (five speed, long first ratio). The weather was very, very wet. The course is very quick so you want the car nicely balanced for fast right hand corners.

Lots of space at the start to warm the tyres.

The start line can be very breezy so watch out for your car creeping. It's a quick straight line blast (you can check your 60ft times from the display on the right of the track) to the first left hander. This was taken (in the wet) in mid-high 2nd. It seemed to be quite slippy on the exit so be careful about applying the power too early.

Another straight, up into high 3rd, before bringing the speed down to low-mid 3rd for the long right hander. Lots of grip, very wide track, exit in high 3rd.

Even longer straight, up into high 4th, slight dab on the brakes (more for confidence than anything) before the long, long right hander. As example of the grip available, the car entered this corner at 98mph in the pouring rain. Build up the speed through the corner, watching out for the pockets of standing water through the corner.

Foot flat to the floor for the blast to the finish line, redlining in 4th across it (115+mph). There's another display on the finish line showing your lap time and terminal speed.

Quick times in the over 1700cc roadgoing kit-car class were mid to high 51s (in the wet).
